Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

Who doesn't love fried chicken?! It's surprisingly quite easy to make once you have all your ingredients, the key to good fried chicken is allowing it to marinate long enough so it does not taste bland. With that being said , if anyone tries this recipe out be sure to let us know what you think!

Ingredients:

  • 300 ml Buttermilk

  • 1 tsp Italian blend seasoning

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp chilli

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp onion granules

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp cumin

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp honey

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • Vegetable oil

Steps:

  1. Place chicken in a bowl with warm water, salt and lemon for about 10 - 15 minutes to clean it

  2. After the time is up, rinse the chicken thoroughly then pat dry and place in separate bowl

  3. Add in your spices now and make sure all the pieces of chicken are covered evenly.

  4. Add in buttermilk and mix well then place in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours. I left mine overnight.

  5. Heat the oven to 175 degrees and line a baking tray with foil

  6. Pour a good amount of all purpose flour into bowl, season the flour with paprika, black pepper, garlic powder and coat the chicken with the flour

  7. Fry each piece for about 7-10 mins on medium heat. I put my chicken in the oven so it cooked properly on the inside without burning it. Make sure you keep an eye on it so it doesn’t become too crispy
