Pizza is always something we have wanted to make and we put it off because the process just seemed extremely long (which it is i won't lie) but once you get the hang of it it's not that bad! This was extremely delicious! and we will definitely be making it again. We got the Crust recipe from sallysbakingaddication.com and the BBQ base was a mixture of a few recipes. Let us know if you try it out and what you think! xx
Pizza Crust
Ingredients
1 and 1/3 cups (320ml) warm water (between 100-110°F, 38-43°C)
2 and 1/4 teaspoons Red Star Platinum instant yeast (1 standard packet)*
1 Tablespoon (13g) granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 and 1/2 cups (440g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled), plus more for hands and surface
sprinkle of cornmeal for dusting the pan
Steps:
Prepare the dough: Whisk the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar together in the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with a dough hook or paddle attachment. Cover and allow to rest for 5 minutes. *If you don’t have a stand mixer, simply use a large mixing bowl and mix the dough by hand with a wooden spoon in the next step.*
Add the olive oil, salt, and flour. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. With lightly floured hands, knead the dough for 3-4 minutes (for a visual, watch me do it in the video above!). The dough can be a little too heavy for a mixer to knead it, but you can certainly use the mixer on low speed instead. After kneading, the dough should still feel a little soft. Poke it with your finger – if it slowly bounces back, your dough is ready to rise. If not, keep kneading.
Lightly grease a large bowl with oil or nonstick spray– just use the same bowl you used for the dough. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat all sides in the oil. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 60-90 minutes or until double in size.
You can Sprinkle lightly with cornmeal, which gives the crust extra crunch and flavor but this step is not mandatory.
Shape the dough: When the dough is ready, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough in half. (If not making 2 pizzas, freeze half of the dough for another time– see freezing instructions below.) On a lightly floured work surface using lightly floured hands or rolling pin, gently flatten the dough into a disc. Place on prepared pan and, using lightly floured hands, stretch and flatten the disc into a 12-inch circle. Lift the edge of the dough up to create a lip around the edges.
Cover dough lightly with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and allow to rest for a few minutes as you prepare your pizza toppings.
BBQ Base
Ingredients
1 can tomato sauce
1/3 cup honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves diced garlic
1 small finely chopped onion
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or balsamic
1/3 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 Cumin powder
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons black treacle
Pinch Salt & Pepper
Steps:
Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté it for 3 to 5 minutes or until soft and translucent, then add the garlic and sauté for just 1 minute longer until fragrant.
Add the tomato paste and mustard powder and cook, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes. The paste should turn a dark red color. Pour in 2 cups of water along with the crushed or puréed tomatoes, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, salt, and pepper, and stir until the mixture is smooth.
Bring the sauce to a bubble, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in the honey and cumin and let the sauce simmer for 1 more hour or until it has reached the desired consistency. (If it gets too thick, thin it out with a little water; if it’s too thin, let it cook a while longer.) Taste the finished sauce and adjust with more salt, pepper, honey, or cumin as needed.
Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature, then spread it on your pizza and transfer any leftovers to an airtight container. If you have time, refrigerate the sauce overnight before using as It will get richer.
Pizza Toppings
Ingredients:
Chicken
Prawns
Italian blend seasoning
onion granules
garlic granules
paprika
black pepper
mixed peppers
1 onion
Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
Steps:
Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C). Allow it to heat for at least 15-20 minutes as you shape the pizza. Lightly grease baking sheet or pizza pan with nonstick spray or olive oil.
Season your meats with the spices and put aside
lightly fry your onions and peppers just till they're a bit soft not too soft as they're still going to cook in the oven
Now fry your chicken till its brown and about 70% cooked through then put it aside then do the same with your prawns.
Once this is done, use a ladle and spread your pizza sauce evenly in a circle on your pizza crust then sprinkle the cheese (as much as you want). Then put your onions and peppers then your meats and you can add some more cheese on top if you like.
Place in oven and cook for about 15 minutes.
